Boron Carbide
Boron carbide, with black crystal powder form, is one of the hardest man-made materials. It has MOHS hardness of 9.36 and microscopic hardness 5,400 - 6,300kg/mm2, which is next to diamond. Its density is 2.52g/cbm and the melting point is 2,450oC.The boron carbide is with high and low temperature resistance, and high grindingefficiency, without reactions to either acid or alkalis. Its not magnetic, and is agood substitute for diamond.Boron carbide is of light weight, with neutron absorbing function and semi-conductivity so that it is used in the military and nuclear industries in addition toboride refractory, ion transfusion, and film layer usage.Furthermore, it can be used for grinding, polishing, and drilling hard metal alloysand jewels.
