The product is soft capsules; each capsule contains 300 or 500mg of oenothera biennis seed oil which is a primrose yellow to orange oily liquid.Oenothera biennis contains a significant amount of gammalinolenic acid (GLA), which can be converted into PEG2, PGI2 and PGF2a that can reduce plasma lipids and has the action of anti-platelet aggregation evidently. It has been estimated that GLA is 163 times more potent than linoleic acid (LA) as a cholesterol-reducing agent. Oenothera biennis oil was used in rats given cholesterol-enriched diets; the serum total and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) + intermediate lipoprotein + low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol concentrations of the rats were lower than those in the other groups, but the serum high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations of the rats were consistently higher. That was caused by the higher cholesterol concentrations in the sub-group of HDL, otherwise, the cholesterol concentrations outside that was no notability change.This product takes an important part in the synthesization and balance of prostaglandin and transforms the metabolites of GLA (like PGE1).
