Compression Tester KA-7373 COMRPESSION TESTER Preparation for Compression Test. 1. Start and run engine up to normal operating temperature. 2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. 3. Remove dust from spark plug wells. Remove all spark plugs. 4. Ground hi-tension terminal of the ignition coil to avoid spark during test. Compression Test. 1.Screw or push the compression tester on the spark plug port as shown in fig. 1 or fig. 2. 2.Crank the engine until the tester reaches its highest reading. note the value and the number of revolutions necessary. 3.Release the pressure inside the tester; repeat the same operation to the other cylinder. 4.Interpretation of the results: - Maximum pressure should be within the manufacturers specifications, if they are considerably under specifications, proceed to wet test . - If two adjacent cylinders have low readings, the head gasket is probably faulty. 5.Wet test: Inject an ounce or two of medium grade oil into the cylinder, repeat the compression test: - If compression increases to nearly normal, the rings, piston and cylinder are in need of servicing. - If the pressure does not increase, the valves are in need of servicing.
